Advantages: Cheap, portable and color free.

Disadvantages: Secondary obstruction causes a loss in contrast, much larger than the Schmidt-Cassegrains, frequent collimation of optics.

3) The Schmidt-Cassegrain

This telescope use mirrors and lenses to bend the optical path onto itself making it a compact tube. The Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope is also referred to as “SCT”.

Advantages: Compact, less expensive when compared to refractors, extensive after-market accessories, computer driven and extremely popular.

Disadvantages: Expensive, images can be bad at times.
